Sometime in August 1994. I made a scientific writing (penulisan ilmiah?) about my field work (kerja praktek) at Ipteknet, BPPT. And once I passed examination, a compulsory book donation to the library is in order.
While other students gave cheap second-hand books to the library, with pride (and a hint of superiority) I gave my Internet Yellow Pages book to the library. It contain thousands of website links, grouped by category and no less than 500 pages thick… It was way beyond its time. Coz I remember the first ISP (Indonet) was soft-launched during the same time. Web community in Indonesia at that time was practically non-existent and the infamous Yahoo! was still hosted on yahoo.stanford.edu.
Now… I think… If the library still has it, it would be the most rotten book they have to date. I mean, who needs an Internet Yellow Pages book these days? I can’t imagine how much rain forest trees has to chopped in order to keep-up with the annual increase of website address, let alone url changes. Who needs web directory? Google rules!

In my previous post I made it clear that personal homepage and blogs are similar. Eventhough I made my own personal homepage in 1994, long before they have geocities.com, then why haven’t I made my own blogpage until now? As I recall, I stopped ‘playing around’ with my website since late 1997, after I left Radnet to study abroad.
I guess, I don’t really know how or what to write in a blog, other than things that are too personal and (what I think) have no educational or informational value to others. For me, it’s like an-open-to-public personal diary. So, I can’t help to write something narcissistic in nature.
The problem is, I dislike narcissistic people. I don’t want to become one of them. So it become a constant struggle for me, as if I’m Anakin who was tempted with the dark side of the force (there I go again..).
But then I remember how was the younger me once eager to hook-up with the net. I used to say to myself “I want to connect with people”, “I want to share (upload) things” and “I want to get (download) things”. I mean… that’s essence of the net. If you worried for being (or becoming) narcissistic or not, then don’t go online. I don’t know the meaning of narcissistic until few years back. So I think the word is being abused to much only recently, probably in the Friendster and blogging era.
From now on, I’ll try to start blogging… regularly if i can manage and for whatever contents.. I don’t care. Hopefully some people can find it useful. Ta da.

This is my second posting on this blog, after the mandatory “Hello World!” post.
After spending a few hours of browsing (simultaneously with serious work, of course) in the office. I found out that my old website is still exist:
- Website (it sure brings back memories on how geeky I was (or still am?) years ago.)
- Old Guestbook (it record entries from June 96 until June 99, and then the CGI engine dies)
It interesting to notice how the web technology back then differ or similar to what we have to date.
Back then we call it Personal Homepage, today we call it Blogs.
We used to call it Guestbook, today we call it comments.
It’s all just jargon and updated technology.
